Wing Commission

8x10 Marker Sketch of Wing

Here's the description I got for the commission.

I'd like to get an 8 x 10 commission from you.
I don't know if you're familiar with Joss Whedon 's run on X-Men, but he had this character, Wing, a student who loved nothing more than to fly.
Unfortunately, he was given a "cure" for his mutation against his will, and he lost his powers.
He ended up killing himself, unable to leave as a "normal person".
I think it would be great to have a picture of him before that tragic incident, just flying in the air and enjoying the heck out of it.

I came up with this:

Blackbeard Cartoon

Quick Blackbeard cartoon sketch. Looking at it now, I realized I left off the cannon fuses under his hat. Oh well. I'm sure I'll draw him again....

Rocketeer for sale!

Found this sketch, grabbed some markers and colored it up. I screwed up the background a little so I fixed it with some white paint. I really like that look and don't know why I wait to mess up before using it.

$20.00 for this 8x10 OR $30.00 and I'll throw in the Cap sketch from yesterday.

Tyrannosaurus Rex

Like a lot of little boys, I loved dinosaurs. All of them. Never really had a favorite. I always found something fascinating about each one.

That said the T-Rex usually goes to the front of the line. This is the classic movie monster version. It might actually have looked closer to a wingless vulture than a giant death lizard, though. I try to stay up to date on new theories, but some visions refuse to die.

Cap for sale

Not sure if Ive ever posted this or not, but found this in a stack of sketches. I'll sale it for $20! Email me if you want it!

This is the back that I think I doodled on before deciding to color the image on the front. These are kinda neat too.

Marker Commissions

Three 8x10 marker commission for an awesome guy who always gives me something fun to draw. Baronm Karza from Micronauts, Brainiac and Ultron, and Maxilian from the Black Hole vs Rom the Space Knight.

Guh-guh-guh GHOST PIRATE!

Here's a sketch of a ghost pirate who looks more like he's off to find his missing leg more than buried treasure.

The new Pirates of the Caribbean movie is out today! Its probably going to get bad reviews of course(these movies are too long and too much going on), but I like Cap'n Jack and the world he lives and I'm looking forward to it. Plus not only do I get Blackbeard, one of my favorite characters from history, he's portrayed by the awesome Ian McShane. I know he'll be different from the historical Edward Teach, but I'll take what I can get. I'll have to do a separate post about my love of Blackbeard one day.

It's me, it's me, it's Ernest T!

Ernest T. Bass was one of the best characters on the Andy Griffith Show (and they had a lot of great ones). All the episodes are on Netflix instant watch, too. I'm sure you've guessed I drew this while watching a couple of them.

You're a toy!

Sketched this while watching The Pixar Story documentary on netflix. Its an okay sketch for not really paying attention to any reference, but you can tell I was watching the tv more than the drawing pad. The doc is very interesting and makes you want to go do something creative.

Godzilla vs Gigan

Dine n draw topic tonight was Godzilla.

Gigan was my favorite kaiju.

Dive, Dive!

Diving suits are fun to draw. As fun as they are to draw, though, this guy seems to be questioning why he bothered to put one on. Seems very bored down there.

This was drawn with my Pentel Pocket Brush Pen. I can't recommend those enough.

Rock Monkey!

I got a tiny ornament of a guitar this past Christmas. I also got a tiny sock monkey about the same time. Since the guitar wasn't Christmas themed, I of course strapped it to the sock monkey:

I was in a sketching mood recently and glancing around the apartment, that little fellow caught my eye. 20 mins later this happened:

Devil Shadow

Drew this last night while watching the Twilight Zone where the guy sells his soul for eternal life. Other than there was a devil (which looked nothing like this one) and the overall macabre vibe, they don't have much to do with each other.

I'll add that I'm not sure if the man's shadow is a devil, or he just has a devil behind him. Either way its just fun to watch the Twilight Zone and draw creepy stuff.

Grave Robbers at Large

Don't know why I never uploaded this. This is one of the first images I did for Curtis Rx's side project Rufus Rex. Though at the time, I thought it was going to be the next Creature Feature album.

You can download the track that goes with this song for free!

Zombie family commission

Sometimes commissions are really fun.

"My wife and I are expecting a baby and we are big zombie fans. We would like a picture of the two of us with a zombie baby clawing it's way out of my wife's stomach. Maybe you just see little hands, or whatever you think. Your style has the perfect amount of whimsey without being too gruesome. You have full creative license..."

Done and done!

Old School Thug Life

I'm always less fascinated with the main villain and more interested in their underlings. Especially the middle management goons. I should do a whole series based on this idea.

Green Goblin

This was the last of my Spidey villain sketches. Wasnt as snappy as the other two so I figured I should quit while I was ahead.

Doc Ock

Here's the Doctor Octopus sketch I mentioned yesterday. I colored it digitally for fun.

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

I drew a really awesome Doc Ock sketch (I'll post tomorrow) that inspired me to think of another Spidey villain. The Rhino came to mind...

Hellboy n' Thor

At the Mickey of Madness

Last night the topic at Dine and Draw was Cthulu. I was just talking about how great the old Mickey Mouse comic strip was.

There ya go.
